What It Is Like to Retire in Deming
Deming is a town of almost 15,000 that is 60 miles west of Las Cruces. Here is how our member, Glenda, who lived here for a time, describes the town: "It is a small town with a slow pace of living. Everyone knows everyone. Retirees have been moving there for many years. Low cost of living. Located on Interstate 10. Las Cruces is 60 miles to the east and Tucson, AZ is 220 miles to the west. Hatch Valley, which is a famous chili producing area is 50 miles to the north. Deming is a big farming and ranching community. What Is Special about Deming
There are numerous ancient Native American sites around Deming. The cost of living is low and for folks who love the outdoors, there is plenty to do. The American Association of Retirement Communities gave Deming its official seal of approval award as a retirement community in 2016. Deming has several activities for retirees including the many RV parks, Rio Mimbres Country Club Golf Course and St. Clair Winery among many others in the area as well as several social and community clubs.

Climate and Physical Environment
Deming is located 60 miles west of Los Alamos in southwest New Mexico. It is in the Chihuahuan Desert at an altitude of 4300'. The average July temp is in the high 70s and the average January temp in the low 40s.
Restaurants & Cultural Scene
The Mimbres and Casas Grandes cultures made pottery of remarkable quality, and the Deming area is rich in native pottery artifacts, as well as beads, stone implements, stone carvings, graves, etc.

Mimbres Memorial Hospital serves the community and the surrounding area.
